Units & Workspaces

CADENSA is organised in a two-level hierarchy: Units and Workspaces. This page explains what they are, how to switch between them, and what happens when you do.


Understanding Units and Workspaces

What is a Unit?

A Unit represents an organisation or company. If you belong to a single company, you will see one unit. Consultants or contractors who work across multiple clients may have access to several units.

What is a Workspace?

A Workspace is a subdivision within a unit — for example a team, department, or project area. Time entries, projects, and tasks are always tied to a specific workspace.

Example structure:

Unit: Acme Corp
├── Workspace: Development
├── Workspace: Marketing
└── Workspace: HR

Unit: Beta Ltd
└── Workspace: Consulting

Unit/Workspace Selector in the Header

The current unit and workspace are always shown in the top bar of the app:

[ Acme Corp / Development ]

Tapping this selector opens the Workspace Selection Modal where you can switch.


Switching Units or Workspaces

  1. Tap the unit/workspace display in the top bar
  2. The Workspace Selection Modal opens
  3. Browse the list of available units and their workspaces
  4. Tap the workspace you want to switch to
  5. The app switches context immediately — the timer tab, entries list, and projects list all reload for the new workspace
Timer Running

If a timer is currently running, switching workspace will stop and save the current entry first. You will be prompted to confirm before the switch proceeds.


First Login — Mandatory Workspace Selection

When you log in for the first time (or after logging out), the Workspace Selection Modal appears automatically and cannot be dismissed until a workspace is chosen. This ensures every time entry is always associated with a valid workspace.

If the workspace list is empty:

  • Your account has no workspaces assigned
  • Log into the CADENSA web app → Settings → Workspaces to verify
  • Ask your administrator to add you to a workspace
  • Then return to the mobile app and try again

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I track time to multiple workspaces in one session?

Yes — switch workspaces between entries. Each entry is recorded in the workspace that was active when it was created.

Does my language preference change when I switch workspace?

No. Language is a device-level preference and is independent of workspace.

Can I see entries from all workspaces at once?

Not on mobile — the Time Entries tab always shows entries for the currently active workspace only. Use the CADENSA web app for cross-workspace reporting.

Why do I see different projects after switching workspace?

Projects are workspace-specific. Each workspace has its own project list.
